DONCASTER
A bustling city with lots on offer that is an eclectic mix of the
urban and the rural and of the old and the new! World
famous for its horse racing and home to one of the most
important race courses in the UK, Doncaster is one of
Britain’s oldest cities and features an abundance of historic
sights, interesting architecture, cultural activities and
beautiful surrounding countryside.

CITY:

www.hholidayrentals.co.uk

Situated at the site of an old Roman fort
and the location of one of the
Northumbrian kings’ palaces, Doncaster is
one of the oldest cities in Britain.
However, it saw its real heyday in the 18th
century, when its most famous attraction,
the race course, was established. Horse
racing have been taking place in Doncaster
since 1703, and its St Leger Race began in
1778, which makes it even older than the
famous Epsom Derby. However, for all its
rich history, Doncaster is a town on the
move, with a quickly changing face -- its
Robin Hood international airport opened
only last year, a new stadium and a
education centre is currently being built,
and regeneration on a large scale is taking
place in the town centre. Hence, Doncaster
is a delight no matter what you are looking
for during your holiday, be it historical
sights, great shopping, or a wild weekend
partying.
