LIVERPOOL

The city of Liverpool is renowned worldwide for its music,
football, architecture and maritime heritage. However, the
city has moved on since the happy days of the Beatles in the
1960s and the town has recently been awarded the honour
of being ‘European Capital of Culture in 2008’. It is a
prestigious award which is expected to put Liverpool firmly
back on the map as a great European city to visit.

THE CITY

The city of Liverpool has been much
rejuvenated in recent years and it boasts
many impressive sightings and a stunning
refurbished waterfront. The city is full of
great architecture which shows the wealth
and civic pride of the area. However, what
makes Liverpool so special is the
friendliness of the locals, better known as
‘Liverpudlians’ or ‘Scousers’. They are a
bold and brash bunch of people and are
instantly recognized by their strong
northern accent.
The city’s most famous sons are
undoubtedly the Beatles and the city
attracts many visitors to follow their
journey from their first gig in the Tavern
and on their way to international stardom.
But Liverpool is more than just the Beatles.
The city is also home to two top football
clubs, Everton FC and Liverpool FC, the
latter being amongst the most celebrated
clubs in Europe with 18 League titles and 5
European Cup titles.

Food

Liverpool’s restaurant scene has blossomed
over the past decades with new eateries
popping up all over town. The city is home
to the oldest Chinese community in
Europe, which of course has meant a
plethora of brilliant Chinese restaurants in
the China Town area. There are plenty of
local ethnic restaurants with great food
available all over the city.

BARS & NIGHTLIFE

Liverpool offers a varied selection of bars
in the city centre. The area around Victoria
Street is naturally one of the most popular
to visit amongst tourists, mainly because
of the Beatles, but also because it offers
good bars and clubs.
The nightlife in Liverpool is very lively and
it is easy to have a fantastic time. The

There are buses into town every 20
minutes on weekdays and every 30
